• Menu changes: Several menu items have been renamed slightly, a few new items have been added, and at least one old item is gone. Nothing too dramatic, though.
• Menu command-key equivalent changes: I've changed several command-key equivalents to more closely conform with Apple's guidelines. Command-N now creates a new outgoing message. Command-O allows you to open a text file or saved message. Command-W closes the topmost open window. ***Command-E starts a mail exchange, and Command-shift-E starts a multiple exchange.*** Command-A now does a "Select all".
• Command-period interrupts - you can now cleanly interrupt most BulkRate processes by typing Command-period. BulkRate will stop what it's doing, close dialog boxes if necessary, and if you are connected, ask if you wish to disconnect (to which you should say yes, since there is not much you can do interactively with BulkRate while connected).
• Resizable windows: you can now resize most BulkRate windows, up to a maximum size of 1000x1000. Minimum size varies by window.
• New windows: The Mail log and Message List are now seperate windows, accessible from the Mail menu, or by typing Command-M and Command-L, respectively.
• New Message list format: The message list format has changed slightly to make use of the FirstClass message header, which allows the message list to be created simultaneously with the reading of messages, instead of as a seperate step after logging off.
• Settings: The password is now hidden until you click or tab into the field to edit it. Saving host settings now saves modem settings as well. To take advantage of this feature, open EACH of your current host settings files, change the modem settings as you see fit, then re-save the settings file. You must do this for ALL of your settings files, not just the ones that have funky modem settings, otherwise BR will use the modem settings from the previously open settings file, which may not be what you want. BulkRate 1.7 will now prompt you to save a settings file if the current settings have been changed.
• Preferences: There is a new dialog for FirstClass settings. BulkRate 1.7 no longer requires that you specially set the FirstClass preferences for displaying messages or chatting, instead, it changes the preferences itself. In order to restore the preferences to what you'd like them to be for FirstClass Client sessions, you need to set your FirstClass preferences accordingly. You can turn chatting back on and show all messages, if you like.
• Archives - the Incoming Mail archive format has changed slightly, so that restoring any old archives (pre-1.7) will result in a strange message list. The messages themselves will be fine, however. There is no change to the Outgoing Mail archive format.
You can now easily archive only a portion of the Incoming mail. In the Message List window, there is now an "Archive" button. If you select a group of messages and then click on "Archive...", the selected messages will be saved to an archive file.
• The "Save mail..." menu item in the File menu now saves the currently displayed message as an archive containing a single message. This allows the saved message to be restored properly with either "Open mail..." or "Restore archive...".
••Bug fixes.....?
• Since the message list is now a seperate window, any sorting problems will not corrupt the message structure as sometimes happened when sorting by date/time with earlier versions of BulkRate.
• The Error 33 bug has been squashed (I'm pretty sure).
• The "unexpected quit" error when quitting BulkRate running under System 6 has been addressed (I'm also pretty sure).
• A bug where BulkRate would go into and endless loop when quitting when you had "Delete sent mail when quitting" checked in Preferences has been fixed.
